 1.   How much does the equipment cost? 

A.  Equipment costs vary just like any other types of purchases. There are high end, mid-level, and entry level pieces. Depending on what the application and budget available will enable you to find the right piece. Price levels vary from $599.00 to $40,000.00 dollars as a general range.

2.  Is it just like watching TV?

A.  Video equipment is capable of looking just like television. Depending on the type of equipment purchased and the amount of available bandwidth, quality can be exceptional. The amount of  breakup or loss of frames depends on the quality  of the codec you have purchased. The codec is the main component of video and allows for the signals to be compressed and decompressed and sent over your connection. 

3.  What type of lines does the equipment need to run?

A.  Video equipment can run over various types of lines depending on the type of equipment purchased. The most popular and proven method for videoconferencing has been ISDN. Through ISDN connections are usually more stable, can connect anywhere, and provide a range of speeds for all needs. Other methods include IP, frame relay, satellite, internet, and even POTS lines. 4.  Can phone calls be made from the unit?

A.  Depending on the type of unit as well as the type of connection available, phone calls can be made. When using a switched connection with the appropriate configuration and equipment,  voice calls can be placed as easily as video calls and can even be added to video calls simultaneously.

5.  Can I install these  units?

A.  General understanding of videoconferencing technology is needed to install properly as well as understand configuration options in the systems. A system not configured properly may work but may not be running at optimal conditions or may have intermittent errors. 

6.  Is this on the internet?

A.  Using videoconferencing does not mean using the internet. In fact most calls needing a business quality connection as well as security would not be using the internet as a connection method.
